An American computer programmer and internet entrepreneur who co-founded Facebook and transformed global social media.
Mark Zuckerberg was born in 1984 in New York. From an early age, he showed a strong aptitude for computer programming. While in middle school, he created a messaging program for his father's dental practice, and in high school, he built an intelligent music player that attracted the attention of major tech companies. He eventually enrolled at Harvard University, where his reputation as a software prodigy quickly grew among his peers.
In 2004, from his Harvard dorm room, Zuckerberg and his college roommates launched "Thefacebook," initially designed to connect Harvard students. The platform's popularity exploded, quickly expanding to other universities and eventually opening to the general public. Realizing the massive potential of his creation, Zuckerberg dropped out of Harvard to focus entirely on his company. Facebook fundamentally changed how people communicate, share information, and stay connected across the globe, growing into the largest social network in the world.
Today, Zuckerberg's empire extends far beyond just Facebook, acquiring platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp to dominate the social media landscape. In 2021, he rebranded the parent company to Meta, signaling a shift toward building the "metaverse," an immersive virtual reality environment. While he has faced significant criticism regarding data privacy and the societal impact of social media algorithms, his influence on modern digital culture is undeniable. At a very young age, he became one of the youngest billionaires in history and forever altered the fabric of human interaction.
