Jesus of Nazareth was a first-century Jewish preacher and religious leader born in Bethlehem and raised in Nazareth, a small village in Galilee. Little is known about his early life, but he grew up steeped in Jewish tradition and scripture. Around the age of thirty, after being baptized by John the Baptist, Jesus began his public ministry. He traveled throughout the region, preaching a message of repentance, the coming of the Kingdom of God, and the unconditional love and mercy of God.
As a spiritual teacher, Jesus often used parables—simple, memorable stories drawn from everyday life—to convey profound moral and spiritual truths. He emphasized inner purity over strict adherence to ritual laws, teaching his followers to love their enemies, forgive those who wrong them, and care for the marginalized, including the poor, the sick, and the social outcasts. His teachings, most famously summarized in the Sermon on the Mount, challenged the established religious authorities and attracted a large, devoted following among the common people.
Jesus's growing influence and his challenges to the religious and political establishment eventually led to his arrest in Jerusalem. Under the order of the Roman governor Pontius Pilate, he was condemned and executed by crucifixion. However, his story did not end there. According to Christian belief, Jesus rose from the dead three days later, proving his divinity and offering salvation to humanity. His life, teachings, death, and resurrection became the foundation of Christianity, which grew from a small Judean sect into the world's largest religion, profoundly shaping Western civilization and global history.
